Cambodia needs a national curriculum for career counseling to be put into action in school development plans. Finn Church Aid (FCA) is going to map opportunities for the continuation of the career counseling an cooperation with
  • The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport and other NGOs to start the reform of education, especially focusing the revision of curriculum, teaching and learning and curriculum framework for general education,
  • Ministry of Labour and Vocational Education Training to compile National Technical Vocational Education and Training Policy.
FCA's aim is that both these curriculums are going to contain career counseling in significant role and planning is based on experiences in Battambang pilot.

The career counseling curriculum and intended core competencies need to be contextualized to prevailing conditions i.e. culture and traditions, school management practices, prior education of the trainees, different conception of learning, and available learning environments.

This prerequisites also that in Cambodia they must start systematic and consistent program for training career counselors. This can be a post-graduate program aimed at qualified teachers wishing to specialize in the field of study counselling and guidance. The prerequisites for applying and enrolling the training program are following:
  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in education, social sciences or relevant field
  • Minimum of three years teaching experience
  • Teacher training or equivalent
  • Adequate computer and social skills
