The purpose of the following two exercises is to
sum up the previous exercise set (Parts 1 – 5 in Toward Career Choice I).
Students have viewed characteristics of work, interesting task areas and tentative
dream jobs in a form of structured worksheets. Now they can work in a more
relaxed way and let their imagination fly. They can write and draw stories about
their dreams and visions.
The following exercises, A pleasing and
meaningful job and A typical working day, can be applied in classroom
counseling and as a homework assignment. If implemented as a classroom activity,
it allows students to enjoy peer support and closer guidance by the teacher. On
the other hand, at home students can have more time to ponder various aspects
and compile their stories with a deeper thought. Whichever method of
implementation is chosen, it is important to share the stories for instance by
posting them on the classroom walls for the whole class to see and explore.
Each story may require at least one or two lessons
to be accomplished.

What time do you start working? Do you have many meetings? What are the typical
tasks that you have deal with every day? Who do you work with? Where do you go for
lunch? What time do you finish working? And so on.
Write
and draw a story about your typical working day.
